Andrew and Jana Klaus

WHO WE ARE
Andrew was born and raised in Tokyo to missionary parents from Illinois, USA. After graduating from the Christian Academy in Japan he went to University of Illinois for college, not intending to return to Japan. But God had other plans for him, and after spending a summer in Japan during college, God gave him a deep burden for the Japanese churches. He went on to study at a Japanese university for year, and then prepared to move back to Japan after graduation.
While in college Andrew met Jana through the church youth group. Jana was born and raised in Illinois and had exposure to Japan with her older sister teaching at a church kindergarten in Yamanashi prefecture at that time. They were married in August, 1991 and moved to Japan in September, 1991 as tentmaker missionaries.
OUR MINISTRY
Andrew was called to the ministry and served as co-pastor of a church in Chofu (Tokyo), from 1994-2011. After the earthquake/tsunami disaster in March of 2011, they moved to the disaster area for a year and a half and worked with overseas and local Christian aid organizations and pastors to bring relief to victims while also sharing the gospel with many.
From the fall of 2012 until the beginning of 2020 the Klaus family served at Hachioji Christ Church (Holiness) in various roles. Then when Covid hit in 2020 and the church temporarily closed down, the Lord opened the way to start a new church plant (Asakawa International Christian Church) in our town of Hachioji using a remodeled shed. Andrew has been pastoring there for now almost five years, and was joined by a retired Japanese retired pastor from 2023. Many nationalities have been represented here, and services are streamed online for those who cannot come in person. They are involved in Bible studies during the week and mentoring seekers.
Andrew & Jana raised eight children, all attending local Japanese schools, and all becoming bilingual. As of 2025, four are living in Japan and four in the States including two college students. The oldest three are married, two of which are married to Japanese and serving the Japanese churches.
